The Blue Biochar Protocol is unique in the regards of producing biochar from oceanic biomass. However, there is already one well-funded biochar (carbon negative energy) corporate group - Cool Planet (CP,  see www.coolplanet.com).  CP has investments from Google, General Electric, four large oil firms, and additional venture capitalists.  Blue Biochar would provided such a firm with significant expansion abilities.

The second example is the International Biochar Initiative (IBI - see www.biochar-international.org).  For biochar, this organization has by far the best website, best bibliography, largest membership, and the greatest recognition in UN and similar policy circles.  As with Cool Planet, however,  IBI does not even mention the Blue Biochar concept.

Also, the separate proposals known respectively as Tropos and Shimizu are aggressive oceanic complex concepts. The latter is the equivalent to a 5 star oceanic resort concept and the prior is still in design phase yet funded by the EU (EU 50+M).

The Blue Biochar Protocol is far more focused upon vast scale volume of biomass production than either. Yet, there is room for all three.

Also, this protocol has a heavy interest in providing egalitarian benefits whereas the above two examples have yet to move in that direction.
